Transformations of Contemporary Literary Criticism: From Textual Structures to the Stakes of Cultural Context

The conference featured broad participation by professors and researchers from several Algerian universities, including: Biskra, Ouargla, Tebessa, Tlemcen, Boumerdès, Tipaza, Jijel, Bordj Bou Arréridj, Saïda, Médéa, Batna 1, Algiers 2, ENS Constantine, Sétif 2, and ENS Sétif.
After two days of presentations and discussions, the conference concluded with key recommendations, including:
- Intensifying interdisciplinary research connecting literary criticism with the humanities.
- Activating digital tools in textual analysis and keeping pace with knowledge technologies.
- Establishing permanent research workshops in cultural criticism and discourse analysis for doctoral students.
- Publishing the conference proceedings in an edited volume as a scholarly reference.
- Valuing Arab critical approaches and advancing the conference toward international standing.

On 6–7 April 2026, the Research Laboratory on Language Didactics held a national conference at ENS Sétif entitled: “Transformations of Contemporary Literary Criticism: From Textual Structures to the Stakes of Cultural Context.”
The conference aimed to:
- Analyze transformations in contemporary literary criticism and the factors that have redirected its trajectories.
- Highlight the impact of cultural and social context on reading practices and the understanding of literary texts.
- Support academic research in cultural criticism, discourse analysis, and interdisciplinary studies.
- Foster scholarly dialogue on possibilities for renewing Arab critical discourse.
- Anticipate the future of literary studies amid the integration of the humanities and emerging knowledge technologies.
